‘The Tree’ is inspired by Lloyd Rees' series of pencil drawings of a Port Jackson fig tree from the 1930’s ‘…capturing the apparent torsion in the tree trunks as a sort of muscular contraction…’ By photographing the tree at night with a flash and changing the image to negative form I isolated the essence of the contorted branches.
